Rockies Push Pass Padres 6-4

SAN DIEGO, Ca- The San Diego Padres played host to the Colorado Rockies last night and fell 6-4. As the season winds down the Padres are just trying to end the season on high note as they are out of the playoff chase.

For the Padres Ian Kennedy got the start. He pitched just 5 innings allowing 7 hits and 6 run, only 4 of them were earned. He stuck out 9 and walked 1 as he picked up his 13th loss of the season.

On the other hand Kyle Kendrick started for the Rockies. He lasted just 5 innings as well, allowing 7 hits and 3 runs. He did strike out 4 and walked 2 and was able to pick up his 5th win of the year.

The offense got started early for the Rockies. DJ LeMahieu hit a RBI triple that brought in Charlie Blackmon to get things rolling. Justin Morneau followed with a RBI single of his own and the Rockies lead 2-0.

Matt Kemp was able to erase that deficit rather quickly. He hit a 2-run home run to left field that brought in Yangervis Solarte. This was Kemp’s 19th bomb of the year.

In the 3rd inning Nolan Arenado hit a ground-rule double that scored a run. Daniel Descalso was able to reach base off of a Kemp throwing error that allowed 2 runs and pushed the Rockies lead to 5-2.

Kendrick followed up with a solo shot of his own in the 4th inning to give the Rockies a 6-2 lead.

Jedd Gyorko hit a RBI double in the 4th inning that brought in Justin Upton and cut the lead to 6-3. Cory Spangenberg laid down a bunt in the 6th and was to push another run across to cut the lead to 6-4.

John Axford came on in the 9th inning for the Rockies and closed down the game. He picked up his 20th save of the lead and the Padres fell 6-4.

The Rockies and Padres will continue their series tonight at 7:10 p.m. PST. Jon Gray and Collin Rea are the projected starters.
