RECAP: Padres Lose A Close One To Rockies, 4-3

Rockies second baseman Daniel Descalso‘s home run in the top of the eight inning stood up to be the game winner, as the Colorado Rockies defeated the San Diego Padres, 4-3.

Colorado started their comeback in the top of the sixth inning, adding runs in the seventh and eighth to claim the victory and avoid the sweep of the series.

Nolan Arenado, now leads the National League in home runs with 38, after he connected on a Tyson Ross pitch in the top of the first inning, to left field. The Rockies took Ross off his game plan, he struck out six but gave up three homers. After Ross had departed the game, reliever Joaquin Benoit,(L,6-5), came in and managed to get through one inning, but the damage was done, when he gave up the game winning homer.

Matt Kemp homered to left in the bottom half of the fourth inning, for his 21st of the season, off of Rockies starter, Jorge De La Rosa. As the Padres failed to come back in the bottom of the eight and ninth innings, Justin Miller,(W,2-2), came in and struck out the side in the seventh, to pick up the win.

The Padres,(67-74), ended their 11 game home stand at 4-7, and now will head up the coast to play the San Francisco Giants, for a nine game road trip, which will be the second to last of the season. Andrew Cashner,(5-14, 4.11 ERA), will get the start in the first game of the series. The Giants will counter with Jake Peavy,(5-6, 4.41 ERA).

San Diego are currently in fourth place in the National League West, 14 full games behind the first place Los Angeles Dodgers.
