Los Angeles Clippers: “Big Baby”

With the signing of Chuck Hayes on August 31st, the Los Angeles Clippers now have a full roster. A roster that does not include fan favorite Glen “Big Baby” Davis. Davis, seen by fans as an emotional yet lovable player, was thought to be in talks with Los Angeles for weeks before the signing of Hayes. The sudden signing of Hayes in the fifteenth and final roster spot was a big surprise to most as Davis and Clippers head coach Doc Rivers have a strong relationship dating back to Rivers’ Celtic days. However the reason for Davis’ departure became more clear just days later,

Davis, now expected to be out for up to three months with this ankle injury, has a very uncertain future with the Clippers. Before the mention of his surgery rumors had started to sprout up about the former LSU Tiger potentially moving to play basketball overseas if no deal was reached with Los Angeles but those talks have ceased since the injury news became public.

While there is a segment of Clipper Nation that believes Hayes could be a temporary signing by Los Angeles as they survey the health of Davis and his ankle during the recovery process, this seems unlikely. The Clippers’ additions of Josh Smith and Cole Aldrich this offseason would have likely stymied “Big Baby’s” playing time regardless of his health status, and likely this is the reason Davis is not sporting Clipper colors this season.

While I gave up long ago trying to guess every managerial move made by Rivers I do not believe Davis will be running up and down the Staples Center floor in Clipper red, white and blue anytime soon.
