Recap: Athletics 11, Angels 5

The Oakland Athletics (58-74) were able to win against the Los Angeles Angels (65-66) who fell one game under .500 This isn’t good if they still want to contend for the last American League Wild Card spot.

Athletics starting pitcher Felix Doubront (2-1, 3.99 ERA, 6.0 IP, 5 K’s, 7 Hits, 4 ER) (W) won against Angels starter Hector Santiago (7-9, 3.37 ERA, 2.2 IP, 4 K’s, 4 Hits, 4 ER) (L) as Santiago struggled early on.

For the Angels credit they did take a 3-0 lead at the top of the third inning. This changed significantly as the Oakland Athletics offense erupted for five unanswered runs. Oakland took the lead 5-3 at the end of the third inning.

By the end of the sixth inning the Athletics were in control. Athletics first baseman Mark Canha (1-3, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI) hit a three-run home run to left field. Oakland lead 9-3 at the end of the sixth inning.

The Angels scored two more runs as the final score here was 11-5. This has to be a wake up call for the Angels if they still want to being in the postseason mix.

Tonight at 7:05 PM PT game two of this series will start. Angels starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker (6-9, 4.48 ERA) will face Athletics starter Cody Martin (2-3, 5.40 ERA)
