Recap: Dodgers 4 – Cubs 1, Wins!

Clayton Kershaw was dominant again going 8 innings and posting double digit strikeouts for second straight game and also passing his previous high of 10 games with 10 or more strikeouts and is now on pace for 275-280 strikeouts.

After last season I didn’t think Kershaw could get better, then he started out poorly and that may have been the best thing that could happen to him because he’s been unconscious since he’s “got right” and nigh unhittable. From the beginning of June totaling 16 starts and 119.2 innings he has a 1.35 ERA, 153 strikeouts and has only walked 17.

Okay, enough about Kershaw, he’s awesome and he’s only 27.

The team did well as well, every starter got on base by at least a hit or a walk and only Justin Turner and Yasmani Grandal, both who seem to be struggling a bit after injuries, did not get a hit.

Chase Utley is fun, sure he only went 1-3 with a walk, run, and an RBI but that RBI came after Jimmy Rollins got on base, then Utley hit a hard line drive into right center scoring Rollins easy and getting a triple out of it after the ball was not cut off by the pitcher. Later in the game Utley showed his base running smarts again by going to 3rd on a ball the catcher bobbled (a play which we’ve roasted Puig over) and would’ve thrown Utley out if he didn’t throw it right and watch it sail into left field, scoring Chase and getting the first run of a 3 run inning.

It was a total team effort and it seems to be the start of a trend. The Dodgers score first, hold the other team with great pitching and then run away with it after the starter and bullpen hold the opposing team down, I hope to see more of this in the future.

And now, a Kiké Hernandez song break.

On Saturday, we have a matchup of pitchers whose first names are missing a letter.

The Los Angeles Dodgers send out Mat Latos (4-9, 4.81 ERA/0-2, 6.75 as a Dodger) against the Chicago Cubs Jon Lester (8-9, 3.75 ERA).

Would’ve rather it been Kershaw and Lester but I feel like Latos will be turning it around soon, and today seems like a good day to start.
