The Dodgers acquired Callaspo in a trade with the Atlanta Braves earlier in the season. The Dodgers dealt long time fan favorite Juan Uribe in the deal.
With the addition of Chase Utley the Dodgers have an abundance of infielders. Top prospect Corey Seager is expected to be called up in September as well leaving no room for Callaspo.
Callaspo was designated for assignment last week by the club. He his .260 in 123 at bats with the team.
Heading down the stretch the Dodgers will need to be wise with their decisions on who is up everyday. Every game will count as they battle for playoff position.
