Recap: Padres 8, Cardinals 0 – San Diego Win Fifth Straight Game

The San Diego Padres (61-62) have won game two of their series against the St. Louis Cardinals (77-45). What is even more rare about the win is the fact that the Cardinals got shutout. That doesn’t happen too often with this team.
Padres starting pitcher Ian Kennedy (8-11, 4.01 ERA, 10 K’s, 7 Hits, 1 BB, 0 ER) (W) was excellent against Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez (12-6, 2.85 ERA, 6.1 IP, 6 K’s, 7 Hits, 3 ER) (L)
No runs were scored until the bottom of the fourth inning. Padres catcher Derek Norris (1-3, 2 R) scored as outfielder Travis Jankowski grounded out to second base. The Padres led 1-0.
In the bottom of the seventh inning San Diego opened up this game on St. Louis. Padres outfielder Matt Kemp (1-4, R, 2 RBI, K) hit a two-run RBI single to center field as it was 3-0 Padres.
This continued on as Justin Upton (2-5, 2 RBI, 2 K’s) hit another two-run RBI double to left field. This gave the Padres a 5-0 lead. Shortstop Clint Barnes (1-1, R, RBI) hit an RBI double as Justin Upton scored giving the Padres a 6-0 lead.
San Diego managed to score two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Extending their lead to 8-0 as this was the final score.
At 1:10 PM PT game three of this series will begin. St. Louis Cardinals ace Michael Wacha (14-4, 2.85 ERA) will take on Colin Rea (2-0, 4.22 ERA) in the series finale.
