SuperCharger MVP – San Diego Chargers Week 12

The San Diego Chargers took on the St.Louis Rams on Sunday afternoon and it was definitely an entertaining one to say the least. Both, the Chargers and Rams made big plays of their own throughout the game as they game would go back and forth all day long.
While it may have been an entertaining game for fans to watch, it was also a sloppy game by both teams. 17 total penalties occurred in this match-up along with 6 total turnovers. You could guarantee there would be lots of yelling and screaming in the film room as both teams analyze this game this week.
Despite all the sloppiness, both teams played at an equal level and kept the game close right until the very last seconds of the game when craziness would occur. Yes, I said craziness.
Why craziness? Well, the Rams were down 24-27 with one minute left in the game and no timeouts. The Rams would be able to move quickly down the field all the way till the point where they would be inside the 5-yard line in position to either tie the game or win.
Well, the Rams would decide to pass the ball…and it would be intercepted leaving the Chargers with the victory. Obviously, the Rams had no timeouts so running the ball would not have been a much better option. Still, an interception in that type of situation is inexcusable.
Anyway, the Chargers were able to pull out the late victory bringing their season total to a 7-4 record with two straight wins.
So who for the Chargers played well enough to earn SuperCharger MVP of the week?
Quarterback, Philip Rivers, played well having 29 completions on 35 attempts which gave Rivers a stunning 83% completion percentage. Rivers also about hit the 300 yard mark passing and had a touchdown passing. Rivers did throw a very costly interception, however, that lead to the Rams earning an easy touchdown.

Wide receiver, Keenan Allen, also had a nice game having 6 receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown. Allen did have 2 fumbles, though, that developed into more opportunities for the Rams to keep themselves in the game.
SuperCharger MVP of the week will not be going to either of these individuals but, instead, to a player who has battled through injuries throughout the season and has come on late to help in the Chargers’ running game. Running back, Ryan Mathews.
Mathews had 12 carries in the game for 105 yards and a touchdown. Mathews’ longest rush of the game was for 32 yards. It is nice to see Mathews rebound from what has been a tough season for him to help get the Chargers a much needed victory.
A honorable mention does have to go out to linebacker, Marcus Gilchrist, who had the game winning interception in the final seconds of the game. Gilchrist also was 2nd on the team in total tackles for the game with 7 and 5 of them being solo tackles.
