The Denver Nuggets traveled to Los Angeles to take on the Lakers last night and won in overtime by a score of 101-94. While the Nuggets scored over 100 points they won last night’s game on defense.

Nuggets head coach Brian Shaw told ESPN.com this about the effort on the defensive end:

Although we didn’t start out the way we wanted to, we’re starting to get it now — especially on the defensive end, coach Brian Shaw said. “The guys are buying in, we’re getting the results that we’re looking for, and it’s starting to be fun again.”

Ty Lawson had a big game for the Nuggets. He scored 18 points and dished out 16 assists. Wilson Chandler added 19 points, and the Nuggets defense held the Lakers to just 11 points in the fourth quarter.

The defensive intensity worked especially well on Kobe Bryant. Bryant went just 4-14 in the 4th quarter and overtime. Shaw talked about the defensive strategy here:

“Kobe’s going to get his shots, he’s going to get his attempts, and we know that,” Shaw said. “We just wanted to make him work hard for everything that he gets, and work hard on the defensive end so that he doesn’t just have a night off at that end and can spend all of his energy just on the offensive side

For the Lakers Kobe Bryant did end up with 27 points on 10-24 shooting. Ed Davis got the start for the injured Carlos Boozer, but what is foul trouble most of the night.

Jeremy Lin scored 17 points and had 5 assists, but the Lakers took the ball out of his hands down the stretch. Lakers Legend James Worthy had this to say about the Lakers offense. Watch the video below.

Wesley Johnson scored 7 points and grabbed 12 rebounds but had a nasty dunk on Danilo Gallinari. While Jordan Hill scored 11 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.

The Lakers 3 point shooting woes continued. They shot just 3-24 from deep. With the loss the Lakers fall to 3-11 on the year and will take on the Memphis Grizzlies at the Staples Center on Wednesday night.
