The San Diego Padres used 3 solo home runs to beat the Miami Marlins 3-1 on Friday night. They say chicks dig the long ball and that was definitely the case tonight.

Andrew Cashner got the start for the Frias and pitched an excellent game. He went 7 innings allowing 5 hits and 1 run. He struck out 5 and walked 1 as he picked up his 4th win of the season.

On the other hand Dan Haren got the start. He lasted 6 innings allowing 8 hits and 3 runs. He struck out 3 and walked 0 and he was awarded his 6th loss of the year.

The offense began in the 1st inning for the Marlins. Justin Bour hit his 10th double of the year that brought in Ichiro Suzuki and gave the Marlins a 1-0 lead.

In the 4th inning the Padres responded with a solo blast from Brett Wallace. This was his 1st home run of the season and tied the game at 1-1.

Yonder Alonso hit a solo home run of his own in the 5th inning. This was his 3rd of the year that gave the Padres a 2-1 lead. Matt Kemp followed the homer with one of his own to center field, his 11th of the year and the Padres took a 3-1 advantage.

Craig Kimbrel came on in the 9th and shut the club down. He picked up his 27th save of the season and the Padres snapped a 3 game losing streak.

The Padres and Marlins will continue their series tomorrow night at 5:40 p.m. PST
