Last night the Los Angeles Angels were able to shut out the Minnesota Twins. Twins starting pitcher Kyle Gibson (8-7, 3.19 ERA, 5.0 IP, 6 ER 6 K’s) (L) went up against Matt Shoemaker (5-7, 4.55 ERA, 6.0 IP, 0 ER, 10 K’s) (W) as game one was all Angels.
In the bottom of the second inning, Chris Iannetta was responsible for the game’s first run. Iannetta hit an RBI single to center field as Erick Aybar scored to give Los Angeles a 1-0 lead. During the third inning it was Aybar who hit a sacrifice fly to left field as Daniel Robertson scored. It was 2-0 at the end of the third inning.
No runs were scored again until the bottom of the sixth inning. Third base man David Freese hit an RBI single to center as Albert Pujols scored. Matt Joyce was responsible for the Angels fourth run as he hit a sacrifice fly to center field as Aybar scored yet again. By this time the Angels were up 4-0 at the end of the sixth inning but they weren’t done scoring yet.
Chris Iannetta was undoubtedly the player of yesterday’s game. In the bottom of the six inning Iannetta hit a three-run homer to left center field as the Angels went up 7-0 at the end of six innings. This would be enough as the final score was 7-0.
Tonight at 7:05 PM PT game two between these two teams will happen. Twins starter Mike Pelfrey (5-6, 4.00 ERA) will take on C.J. Wilson (7-7, 3.59 ERA) in match up between two teams looking to be playing this October.
