Yangervis Solarte Lifts Padres Over Rangers 6-5

Yangervis Solarte hit a go ahead home run in the 9th inning and the San Diego Padres were able to snap their losing streak and beat the Texas Rangers Saturday night.
James Shields got the start for the Padres and struggled. He lasted just 5.1 innings allowing 5 hits and 4 runs. He struck out 5 and walked 4 as he struggled to find the zone. In his outing he threw 105 pitches, 62 of them for strikes.
For the Rangers Colby Lewis had a little more success. He pitched 7 innings allowing 5 hits and 3 runs. He struck out 5 and walked 2 as well. Lewis threw 99 pitches, 65 of them for strikes.
The Rangers started the offense in the 2nd inning. Mitch Moreland hit a solo shot to centerfield. It was his 15th homer of the year and gave the Rangers an early 1-0 lead.
Matt Kemp answered back with a 2-run shot in the 3rd inning. His home run was his 8th of the year and the Padres lead 2-1.
The Rangers were at it again in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Shin-Soo Choo hit into a double play but allowed Rougned Odor to score and tied the game at 2-2. Prince Fielder followed with a RBI single that brought in Robinson Chirinos and the Rangers regained the lead at 3-2.
Justin Upton hit a RBI single in the 5th inning that brought in Solarte to tie the game at 3-3.
In the 6th inning Moreland hit his second home run of the game and pushed the Rangers lead to 4-3. Elvis Andrus hit a RBI double in the 8th inning that brought in Adrian Beltre and heading into the 9th the Rangers held a 5-3 advantage..
Melvin Upton hit a RBI single in the 9th that brought in Will Venable. Solarte followed with a 2-run blast that gave the Padres the lead and the win.
Craig Kimbrel came on in the 9th inning and shut the club down. He picked up his 22nd save of the year. The Padres and Rangers will conclude their series tomorrow afternoon at 12:05 p.m. PST.
