Mike Trout and C.J. Cron each hit two home runs and the Los Angeles of Anaheim powered past the Seattle Mariners 7-3. This was the 28th time this season that the Angels have hit 2 or more home runs in a game this season.
Hector Santiago got the start of the Angels. He pitched 7 innings allowing 8 hits and 1 run while striking out 7. He threw 106 pitches, 76 for strikes.
On the other side Mike Montgomery got the nod. He struggled as he lasted only 5 innings allowing 8 hits and 5 runs. He did strike out 3 and didn’t walk any batters. He threw 95 pitches, 67 for strikes.
The offense got started in the bottom of the 1st inning when Nelson Cruz hit a RBI single. This brought in Franklin Gutierrez and gave the Mariners a 1-0 lead.
In the third inning Trout hit a 3-run shot to center field that brought Johnny Giavotella and Kole Calhoun. Just like that the Angels were up 3-1.
In the 4th in Cron hit a solo blast to left centerfield. He was at it again the 6th inning, this time a 2-run shot that brought in David Freese and pushed the lead to 6-1.
Trout answered Cron with his second bomb of the night in the 7th. A solo shot to right field that pushed the lead to 7-1.
Mark Trumbo hit a 2-run blast in the 9th inning to left center field that brought in Kyle Seager. That was all the Mariners could rally as the Angels beat the M’s 7-3.
The Halos and M’s will continue their series tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. PST. C.J. Wilson and Taijuan Walker are expected to start for both sides.
