Angels GM Jerry Dipoto Resigns

It’s not easy working with some people, and no one knows that more than Jerry Dipoto right now. The Los Angeles Angels general manager told staff of the office that he has resigned. The news is thought to have occurred after frustrations with manager Mike Scioscia exploded. He packed up his bags last night.

The two aren’t strangers to arguments; their relationship has been rocky for a few years now. The news of the issues returning between Scioscia and Dipoto came to light after Fox Sports reported Dipoto met with the club last week and informed the players that they were not utilizing their scouting and analytic information, which was provided by the front office, and that they now would be hand-delivered the information by a front-office staffer, and not the coaching staff.

Funnily enough, problems began with Scioscia and Dipoto in 2012 over the same statistical information importance.

Albert Pujols, you may have heard of him, reportedly responded to this by saying the team would be doing better if Jerry Dipoto focused more on improving the roster instead of worrying about statistical information. He was quoted yesterday saying as reported by USA Today.

“Whoever leaked that story, it’s really embarrassing, because we’re supposed to be family here,” Pujols told reporters. “I don’t know how that information got out.

“I didn’t say that,” Pujols said. “I’ve been in this game for 16 years. I would never disrespect a team.”

Yet, when asked whether he exchanged words with Dipoto, Pujols told reporters: “That’s none of your business. Whatever happens in the clubhouse stays in the clubhouse.”

However, Scioscia said the following:

“Our relationship has developed into a good working relationship,” Scioscia told reporters, “and it’s grown from where it was four years ago to where it is now. …

“I’m not going to comment on what happened or didn’t happen, but I can tell you it won’t be a distraction to these guys.”
