Nick Young will make his season debut versus the Atlanta Hawks according to ESPN.com’s Baxter Holmes tonight.

Nick Young suffered a thumb injury during training camp and caused him to miss the start of the year. The Los Angeles Lakers released a statement regarding Young’s injury when it first happened:

With the news that Nick Young has torn the radial collateral ligament in his right thumb, the Lakers practiced Saturday knowing they will likely be without their projected sixth man for the beginning of the season.

“It hurts us, obviously short-term,” head coach Byron Scott said. “Nick is somebody who we were counting on obviously (to) provide that offense off the bench. So we’re going to have to try to find that elsewhere.

Nick Young was one of the few good things for the Lakers last season. He averaged 17.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. He will most likely be the second scoring option for the Lakers who have had struggles on both sides of the ball.

Kobe Bryant has been hoisting it up plenty and Young will join the show as well. Mike Bresnahan had this to say about Nick Young’s return:

Lakers head coach Byron Scott voiced his frustrations with the Lakers poor start, and hinted that he was close to making lineup changes. Inserting Nick Young to the lineup may be that change needed.

The Lakers start their 3 game road trip tonight against the Atlanta Hawks.
