RECAP: Kershaw Fans 11, Dodgers Edge Padres, 4-3.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres opened their 3 game weekend series at Petco Park last night,resulting in a 4-3 victory for Los Angeles.

Clay Kershaw (5-3), who pitched well in his last outing, when he struck out eleven St. Louis Cardinals for a 2-0 win. San Diego’s, Odrisamer Despaigne (3-4), who is coming off a loss in his privous game against the Cincinnati Reds, got the start for the Padres. Kershaw went 6-2/3 innings, striking out eleven, walking three and he only gave up one run, which, was a solo home run to Clint Barmes in the bottom of the 7th inning. San Diego took a 3-2 lead when Kershaw left the game and Dodgers Reliever Yimi Garcia, who on his first pitch gave up a two-run homer to left field to Padres catcher Derek Norris, which gave the Padres a 3-2 lead.

In the top of the 8th inning with the Dodgers down by a run, pinch hitter Alex Guerrero came through with a single to right field that scored Andre Ethier to bring home the winning run for Los Angeles. Kelly Jansen pitched a perfect ninth inning to pick up his eighth save of the season. The win went to Yimi Garcia, (3-2) and the loss went to Padres reliever Dale Thayer, (2-1). This game had several moments when Dodgers fans were literally holding their breaths. In the first inning, Clayton Kershaw was hit with a 103mph rocket shot off the bat of Padres left fielder Justin Upton, the training staff came out to check on Kershaw but he shook them off and continued to play. Another moment was when Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez was ejected from the game, (Jawing), for arguing with home plate umpire Doug Eddings.

The two teams will continue their series tonight when Zack Greinke, (5-1, 1.92), will go up against Ian Kennedy, (3-5, 6.48), at 7.10pm. Los Angeles, (36-25), still leads the National League West by 2.5 over the San Francisco Giants. The San Diego Padres, (31-32), are in third place, six games behind the first place Dodgers.
