RECAP: Angels Fall Short In The Bronx, 8-7

The Los Angeles Angels started their weekend series with the New York Yankees in a wild game that needed a late rally in the ninth inning, only to fall one run short of victory as they lose to the New York Yankees, 8-7.
The Yankees started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, on a Stephen Drew homer to right field, Drew would go on to have a big night at the plate, belting two homers as the Yankees took an early 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, New York added two more runs, Mark Teixeira homered to right field, scoring Gardner and the Yankees lead increased to 4-0. New York added another run in the bottom of the fifth, Yankees DH, Alex Rodriguez singled and Brett Gardner scored, who tripled earlier in the inning, giving the Yankees a 5-0 lead. The RBI for Rodriguez was his 1,997th of his career, which moved him pass Barry Bonds for sole possession of second place on the all time list.
The Angels finally get on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning but New York came back in the bottom of the inning with two more runs, starting off with Yankees catcher Brian McCann‘s double to right field. Garrett Jones grounded out to Albert Pujols, who made a spectacular play that saved an extra base hit but McCann moved to third on the play. Angels starter Jared Weaver, wasn’t sharp in this game, giving up 3 homers, allowing 9 hits that lead to 7 runs. Alex Rodriguez collected his fourth hit of the night, this was the first time since May of 2011.
Heading into the top of the ninth inning, the Angels had made several changes, Manager JMike Scioscia decided to rest stars Albert Pujols and Mike Trout. The Angels gave a tremendous comeback effort in this game, sending 11 batters to the plate in the inning and the team had the go-ahead run, on deck. Jared Weaver took the loss and his record now falls to (4-5) on the season. New York Yankees starter Nathan Eovaldi, picked up the win, his record is now (5-1) this year. The two teams will continue their series tonight, with Garrett Richards (5-3), taking the mound for the Angels, he will be opposed by Yankees starter Adam Warren who is (3-4) on the season.
