We like to start our day searching the web and reading articles about our beloved LA sports teams. It’s easy to get lost in the depth of the inter web, but luckily for you we have compiled a list of the most interesting and pertinent news stories for your morning reading pleasure. For this edition, let’s dive into the news surrounding the Los Angeles Angels.
The Los Angeles Angels’ Mike Trout won the 2014 AL MVP award:
“It is a very exciting day for the LA baseball world. It was announced today that Mike Trout, Outfielder for the Los Angeles Angels, was named the 2014 AL MVP. And the best part? The votes were unanimous!
After finishing second in the past two seasons losing to Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera, Mike Trout finally cracked the AL MVP code! He joins Mickey Mantle as the only player who consecutively was runner-up, before winning in the following season.
The twenty-three year old is the fifth-youngest winner of this award and the youngest to ever win by an unanimous vote.
Trout was top in the AL with 111 RBIs this season and batted .287. He had a career-high of 36 home runs and led the league in both runs scored (115) and total bases (338).
“He also led all position players in wins above replacement this season at 7.9, but was the lowest WAR in the standout outfielder’s three-year career.”

According to Rant Sports, there are rumors swirling around Max Scherzer signing a deal.
“The only top pitcher on the free agent market who doesn’t seem to have a favorite for his services is Max Scherzer. Some of that may be caused by teams not knowing what to think about him and the mega deal he’s sure to get somewhere, and some of it may be caused by teams targeting less-expensive options first.
However, one destination that could make sense for the 2013 AL Cy Young Winner would be the Los Angeles Angels. The money would be a struggle given the fact Scherzer’s agent is Scott Boras, who’s known for sucking every last penny out of teams’ pockets. The team would also have to give up a first-round draft pick as compensation, since Scherzer rejected his qualifying offer from the Detroit Tigers.
Even with all of that, the team is in desperate need of starting pitching. It was never more evident than last season when they were swept out of the first round of the playoffs by the Kansas City Royals after winning the most games in all of MLB. Granted, ace Garrett Richards was injured and unavailable in the playoffs, but adding Scherzer to the rotation would make the Angels a tough out in October.”
