After two straight wins over the Atlanta Braves, the Los Angeles Dodgers lose in the series finale, 3-2. The Braves started out scoring in the top of the third inning, when Cameron Maybin took a Zack Greinke‘s pitch over the center field wall.
The Dodgers came back, in the bottom of the fourth inning to even the score, when Justin Turner singled to second and Jimmy Rollins scored the Dodgers first run.
Heading into the top of the eighth inning, with the score tied at one, Andrelton Simmons, who had two hits in this game, scored on a wild pitch from Dodgers reliever Adam Libertore, for the go ahead run. On the next pitch, Nick Markakis hit a ground ruled double that bounced into the left field stands and scored Jace Peterson for the Braves third run.
Moving into the bottom of the ninth, the Dodgers only managed to score one other run on a solo shot by Alex Guerrero. Jason Grilli earned his 14th save of the season but the big story in this game was Alex Wood. The Braves starter, who had returned from injuries, made his first start since May 16. Wood pitched seven innings, striking out six Dodgers for the win and Wood’s record is now (3-2) on the season. Dodgers starter Zack Greinke (5-1) went six innings, walked only two batters, gave up only three hits, one earned run and striking out nine, for a no decision. Dodgers reliever, Chris Hatcher, (1-4) took the loss.
The Dodgers are now 28-18 and still hold a one game lead over the San Francisco Giants as they head to St. Louis for a three game weekend series with the Cardinals.
