Joc Pederson’s Late Heroics Lifts Dodgers Over Padres 2-1

Joc Pederson hit a solo home run in the 8th inning to lift the Los Angeles Dodgers over the San Diego Padres 2-1 Friday night. After being swept by the San Francisco Giants, the Dodgers finally have something to smile about.

Zack Greinke continued his brilliance this season. He pitched 7.2 innings allowing 6 hits and 1 run. He struck out 5 and walked 1. He picked up the no decision.

On the other hand Andrew Cashner got the start. He pitched 6 innings allowing 5 hits and 1 run, 0 earned. He struck out 3 and walked 1. He also picked up the no decision.

The offense got started for the Dodgers in the 5th inning. Andre Ethier hit a RBI double to right field that brought in Justin Turner and gave the Boys in Blue a 1-0 lead.

In the 7th inning Will Venable hit a RBI single to center that brought in Derek Norris and tied the game at 1-1.

It was Pederson in the 8th inning who hit a solo shot to right field to give the Dodgers the win. It was his 11th of season.

Brandon Maurer pitched 1 inning of relief for the Padres. Joaquin Benoit pitched the 8th inning and surrendered the blast to Pederson. He picked up the loss.

Chris Hatcher pitched 0.1 innings in relief followed by Kenley Jansen. Jansen picked up his 2nd save of the year.

The Dodgers and Padres will continue their series tomorrow night at 6:10 p.m. PST
