Angels’ Mike Trout Wins 2014 AL MVP

Mike Trout becomes the fourth-youngest MVP in either league.

It is a very exciting day for the LA baseball world. It was announced today that Mike Trout, Outfielder for the Los Angeles Angels, was named the 2014 AL MVP. And the best part? The votes were unanimous!

After finishing second in the past two seasons losing to Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera, Mike Trout finally cracked the AL MVP code! He joins Mickey Mantle as the only player who consecutively was runner-up, before winning in the following season.
The twenty-three year old is the fifth-youngest winner of this award and the youngest to ever win by an unanimous vote.
Trout was top in the AL with 111 RBIs this season and batted .287. He had a career-high of 36 home runs and led the league in both runs scored (115) and total bases (338).
“He also led all position players in wins above replacement this season at 7.9, but was the lowest WAR in the standout outfielder’s three-year career.”
This season was one for the books in Mike Trout’s case. He was also honored with his third straight Silver Slugger award and was the MVP of the 2014 All-Star Game.
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw also won MVP tonight for the NL.
