It’s a great day in Lakers Nation, The Los Angeles Lakers have the second pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. So, where do we go from here? Let me give a few options on who the Lakers should get with the pick.
First off, if the Minnesota Timberwolves take Kentucky forward Karl Anthony Towns, it’s okay, not a problem, the Lakers can go with Duke, big man, Jahlil Okafor. Okafor is a very versatile player that moves very well around the basket and he can rebound. When he’s double teamed, he seems to get the ball to an open teammate with ease, which, makes him an excellent passer. He would be a great option to play alongside Jordan Hill and with Julius Randle, who is coming back from an injury.
Now, if the team isn’t really satisfied with Jordan Clarkson, then the team could consider taking Ohio State guard, D’Angelo Russell. Russell is a very skilled point guard that has all the tools to become a legitimate superstar in this league. There has been very good feedback from many about what Russell can do, I think that he is NBA ready and should be on the court starting for any franchise that takes him in the draft.
Those are a few options that comes to mind with the top players in this year’s draft. Another consideration is Emmanuel Mudiay, a guard that played in China last season, instead of returning to SMU to play for Larry Brown. Mudiay has size and is NBA ready and his choice to play in China is the equivalent to playing in college for one year.
All Lakers fans should be excited with this position. The franchise has gone through its worst stretch, with a decent placement in the NBA Draft and some good free agents on the market, the Lakers will return to NBA respectability.
