DeAndre Jordan and the Los Angeles Clippers just suffered one of the most epic collapses in NBA history. For just the 9th time in NBA history the Clippers blew a 3-1 lead. James Harden and the Houston Rockets are moving on to the Western Conference Finals while the Clippers are sitting at home.
With any team after the season ends, there are many questions surrounding the future of some of their players. For the Clips, one of their most important players becomes a free agent. Jordan who many believed should have won the defensive player of the year, will hit the open market.
For many people it’s a easy decision… Pay the man. But it’s not the simple. The Clippers already are spending big on Chris Paul and Blake Griffin and rightfully so. Committing to Jordan limits the Clippers cash and roster flexibility going forward. As much as Austin Rivers rose to the occasion there’s still obvious holes on the bench and by paying Jordan max money that problem will most likely go unsolved.
To make matters more extreme reports are surfacing that Jordan wants max money or he’ll go elsewhere. The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly interested in him. Mark Cuban isn’t afraid to spend money we all know that. And it probably won’t be the best idea to let him walk to another Western Conference team.
I think the Clippers will end up paying him whatever they have to in order to keep him around. He’s too valuable on the defensive end and you can see the huge drop off on both ends when he’s off the floor.
Yes it would be nice to see him hit more free throws, but it would also be nice if someone paid off my student loans for me. The point is you can’t get everything you like you live with the poor free throw shooting as long as he continues to be one of the best rim protectors in the league.
