The Los Angeles Clippers enter today’s game up 2-1 against the Houston Rockets after a stunning game 3 orchestrated by Austin Rivers.
The Clippers’ starting point guard, Chris Paul, said the following about the head coach’s son,
“Austin was unbelievable,” said Paul, who had 12 points and a team-high seven assists in his first game since hitting the winning bucket in Game 7 against San Antonio last weekend. “I was probably his biggest cheerleader in the third quarter. I just kept saying, ‘I don’t want to play anymore if I don’t have to.'”
Austin Rivers said this of his relationship with Doc Rivers:
“Our relationship has always been coach-player,” said the younger Rivers, acquired in a trade with Boston in January. “He’s hard on me, but it’s because he wants the best for me.”
Blake Griffin has also been outstanding this in the playoffs. He has posted 10 straight double doubles, a feat that was completed by the Houston Rockets’ Dwight Howard in 2009.
At first look of the box score from Game 3 it appears as though the game was pretty even. Six of their players posted double digit points, but the only shot 39.8% as opposed to the Clips’ 55.4%. Coach Kevin McHale said the following, as reported by NBA.com:
“We just let go of the rope and they piled on us,” coach Kevin McHale said. “We got rattled in that third quarter. Our team defense went to hell.”
