Padres Bats Wake Up; Beat Dbacks 6-5

The San Diego Padres rebounded after being shutout last night and beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-5 tonight. After last night’s beat down the Padres answered with a strong response.
James Shields got the start for the Padres. He pitched 6 innings allowing 6 hits and 5 runs while striking out 7. He did walk 3 but it didn’t matter as he picked up his 4th win of the year.
For the Dbacks, Jeremy Hellickson got the start. He lasted just 4.2 innings as he allowed 8 hits and 5 runs. He did strike out 3 and walked 2.
Will Venable got the party for the Padres on offense. He hit a solo shot to right in the 2nd inning, his 3rd of the season. In the bottom half of the inning Chris Owings added a two-run shot of his own, his 2nd of the season. His home run brought in Aaron Hill.
Matt Kemp hit a RBI single to center that brought in Cory Spangenberg and tied the game at 2-2. In the 4th inning Alexi Amarista reached on a fielder’s choice that allowed Venable to score and gave the Padres a 3-2 lead.
Wil Myers hit a solo shot to left field in the 5th inning as part of his 4/5 game today. Justin Upton reached on a fielder’s choice that brought in Spangenberg and the Padres held a 5-2 advantage.
In the bottom half of the 5th A.J. Pollock hit a solo shot to left. This cut the lead to 5-3. Paul Goldschmidt hit a solo blast of his own in the 6th inning, and David Peralta added one of his own to tie the game at 5-5.
It was Venable in the 7th who hit a RBI single to left that brought in Upton and give the Padres the 6-5 lead.
Craig Kimbrel came on in the 9th inning to shut the club down for the Padres. He picked up his 9th save of the season.
The Padres and Dbacks will continue their series tomorrow night at 5:10 p.m. PST
