In last nights marquee matchup between Clayton Kershaw (L) (1-2, 3.73 ERA, 7.0 IP, 8 K’s, 2 ER) and Madison Bumgarner (W) (2-1, 3.73 ERA, 8.0 IP, 9 K’s, 1 ER) both aces pitched very well last night. According to ESPN Clayton Kershaw has a 2.08 ERA vs Madison Bumgarner and the Los Angeles Dodgers are 1-4 in the times we have faced the reigning World Series MVP. This will need to change if we are to win a World Series later on this year.

The margin of error for these two pitchers was very low as they’re both top-five pitchers in the MLB right now in my opinion. Clayton Kershaw allowed a double in the bottom of the first to Angel Pagan as this was the first of seven hits Kershaw allowed to San Francisco. Giants catcher Buster Posey was the difference in the game last night. Posey has hit Kershaw thirteen out of sixty-five (13-65) times and Buster was responsible for the first run scored as he hit an RBI single to shallow right field to give San Francisco a 1-0 lead.

Once both pitchers were in a rhythm something had to give unfortunately. In the top of the fourth inning Buster Posey hit a solo-shot home run to center field giving San Francisco a 2-0 lead over Los Angeles. The Dodgers did manage to rally with two guys on base in the bottom of the fourth inning, however they only scored one run against Madison Bumgarner. Giants closer Santiago Casilla was awarded the save as the final here was 2-1 in favor of the San Francisco Giants.

Tonight at 7:10 PM PT the series will be determined. Though I would of liked to have swept the Giants like they did a series win now is much more important. The Giants will have starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong (0-1, 7.71 ERA) on the mound against Zack Greinke (3-0, 1.35 ERA) as the Dodgers look to avoid losing two consecutive series to the defending World Series Champions.
