The news broke today that the Los Angeles Lakers are indeed still interested in acquiring Rajon Rondo, but only if it comes with that low, low, price.
The Lakers have tried to trade for him on numerous occasions, all came up with nothing. So Rondo heads to Dallas and struggles there after clashes with the coach, a “negative net rating on the court”, and a mysterious back injury. You can see why Rondo now looks a little undesirable to teams, and the Lakers are going to play off of this.
How much will the above affect the Lakers pursuit of the once highly coveted point guard? Well, that’s something that Mitch Kupchak and Jim Buss still need to iron out.
Kevin Ding of BleacherReport.com said the following about the news:
“So there remains a distinct possibility in today’s space-and-shoot NBA that the Los Angeles Lakers will be the torchbearers for the old school and sign the pass first (nay, pass only) Rondo to a free agent contract this summer.
But what should be made clear, according to team sources, is that Buss is not the believer he was earlier this season, when it comes to Rondo, and Kupchak is toting enough healthy skepticism that he sees Rondo as value only at a certain-low price.
The Lakers have higher priorities when it comes to spending their precious 2015 salary-cap space. They are hopeful of buying a foundational piece – something they aren’t convinced Rondo is.”
So Lakers fans, what do we think? Do we want Rondo? Could there possibly a Love and Rondo combo next season?
