Joaquin Benoit Struggles, Padres Lose 9-4

Joaquin Benoit allowed three runs in the 8th inning and the Houston Astros beat the San Diego Padres 9-4. After avoiding the sweep against the Dodgers on Sunday the Padres were unable to use that win as momentum.
James Shields got the start for the Padres. He pitched 6 innings allowing 6 hits and 1 run while striking out 12. He only walked 1 batter as he picked up a no decision for his efforts.
For the Astros Collin McHugh got the start. He pitched 6 innings as well allowing 7 hits and 3 runs while striking out 5. He picked up a no decision as well.
After 3 innings of scoreless baseball the Astros got on the board first. Jed Lowrie hit a solo shot to right field. This gave the Astros the 1-0 lead.
The Stros were back at in the 5th inning. Jose Altuve hit a ground rule double to right field, his 3rd double of the year, that brought in Jake Marisnick and the Astros held a 2-0 advantage. Luis Valbuena followed with a RBI single that brought in Altuve and the Astros held a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the 5th inning Wil Myers woke the Padres bats up. He hit a RBI double to left field that brought in Will Middlebrooks and Shields. This cut the Astros lead to 3-2. Yangervis Solarte followed with RBI single that brought in Myers and just like that the game was tied at 3-3.
In the top of the 7th Jason Castro hit a solo shot to left center to regain the lead for the Astros at 4-3.
Solarate answered back in the bottom half of the inning with a RBI double to left that brought in Alexi Amarista and the game was tied at 4-4.
Benoit ran into trouble in the 8th inning. George Springer scored on a Derek Norris throwing error.Colby Rasmus followed with a RBI single to right that brought in Lowrie, and Chris Carter hit a double to left that brought in Rasmus.
Kevin Quackenbush came on in the 8th to relieve Benoit of his misery. The Astros held a 7-4 after 8 innings.
In the 9th the Padres threw Cory Mazzoni in the fire. He pitched one inning allowing a 2-run shot to Rasmus and the Astros beat the Padres 9-4.
The Padres and Astros will continue their series tomorrow night in San Diego at 7:10 p.m. PST
