2014: A Year Of Infamy For The Los Angeles Kings

4 – Marian Gaborik gets traded to LA

Stop me if you’ve heard this one.  The Kings are struggling to score goals so at the trade deadline, GM Dean Lombardi makes a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets and gets a player that was floundering (or as I like to say, banished) there.  This player then comes to LA and becomes the missing piece of the offensive puzzle to help LA go all the way and win the cherished Stanley Cup. Oh you have heard it before?  Well of course you have, thats because it has identically happened to the Kings twice!  Like Jeff Carter before him in 2012, Marian Gaborik was able to redeem himself in Los Angeles and get his career back on the right track by scoring key goals, all the way to the Cup.  Gaborik, who many hockey experts were writing off at the trade deadline as they were more impressed and swooning over the New York Islander’s Tomas Vanek (who got traded at the deadline to Montreal), ended up finishing the playoffs with 22 points and a league leading 14 goals! (Vanek by the way, finished the playoffs with a disapointing 5 goals and 10 points).  The key to these goals were how importantly timely they were.  I picked 3 videos of his goals in the playoffs that I felt were the best examples of Gaborik showing up at the right time to save the day, like some comic book superhero flying in to the rescue.
