3 – Jonathan Quick breaks Rogie Vachon’s all time win record, and makes a “Scorpion kick save” just because he can
What more is there to say about King’s goalie Jonathan Quick? He is simply amazing and the greatest goalie to ever to protect the crease in Kings history. This became official league wide as on March 22, 2014, Quick and the Kings defeated the Florida Panthers 4-0, giving Quick the 172nd win of his career, all for the Los Angeles Kings. This broke Rogie Vachon’s long time record of 171.
As an added bonus, I thought I’d throw in the stunning and gravity defying Matrix like “Scorpion Kick” save he did against the Winnipeg Jets a little later on March 29. When watching this save, I am reminded of a comment made by Captain Dustin Brown when both he and Quick were playing for Team USA at the Sochi Winter games. After making some miraculous saves, fellow USA teammates were stunned and in awe of Quick’s athleticism and ability to make saves on shots and plays that seemed impossible to be saved. When they mentioned it to Brown, he just shrugged it off and mentioned that he’s been watching Quick do that every day for the Kings for years. In fact, he was so used to it that he didn’t even really notice when Quick did it anymore. The teammates all just looked at Brown with shocked astonishment. I love that story!
