According to A.J. Cassevell of MLB.com San Diego Padres third basemen Will Middlebrooks may be getting some reps in at first base this spring.
Middlebrooks hasn’t worked at 1B yet, but he will. Says Black told him “to take 100 percent of your reps at 3B — and 20 percent at 1B.”

Middlebrooks who was accquired this offseason by the Padres has spent his whole career in the AL with the Boston Red Sox. There he played third base but spoke to Cassevell about the possiblity of playing first in the NL.
Middlebrooks on 1B: “Late innings in the NL, you never know what can happen with Ps moving around. So I’ll be prepared to step in anywhere.”

Being able to be versatile in the NL especially in the late game situations will add another dynamic to the 2015 Padres. For Middlebrooks he is hoping that he can find his swing after struggling the past two years.
