Robbie Keane Leaves LA Galaxy

@FOXSoccer

Oh captain, my captain.

Robbie Keane, arguably the Los Angeles Galaxy’s greatest captain and without a question the greatest Designated Player in Major League Soccer’s history, has announced his departure from the Galaxy.

Keane, who scored 92 goals and tallied 51 assists, leaves the Galaxy with legend status. The Irishman had the nickname of King while playing for the Galaxy, and he certainly deserves that title.

The announcement comes only days after it became official that Steven Gerrard exited the Galaxy following a generally poor 18-month stint with LA.

In an open letter to Galaxy fans, Keane said:

“I can confirm that after five fantastic years I will be leaving the LA Galaxy. It’s been a privilege to have played my part in the history of such a great club and I leave with memories that will stay with me forever. Winning three MLS Cups, scoring over 100 goals for the club and being named as 2014 MVP are all achievements that I will look back on with pride, it’s been an incredible experience, I’ve truly loved every minute of my time at LA Galaxy.”

Keane’s phenomenal career of six years with the Galaxy are only a small part of his incredible career back in Europe and for the Republic of Ireland national team, which he retired from earlier this year, leading the nation in goals with 68 in 146 appearances.

Keane played for Wolverhampton Wanderers, Coventry City, Inter Milan, Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Celtic and West Ham prior to joining the Galaxy in 2011; he had 150 goals in total with those clubs.

The 36-year-old won three MLS Cups with the Galaxy and will dearly be missed by the team and its fans.

Keane is rumoured to remain in MLS with the Colorado Rapids and Vancouver Whitecaps as potential suitors, but Keane is yet to state where he will go.

With a track record like his, the least that can be said is #ThankYouKeano.
