Recap : Dodgers Lose 4-3 in Extra Innings

The Los Angeles Dodgers geared up for their opening series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Andre Ethier’s 33rd birthday. With Hyun-jin Ryu still sidelined, LHP Brett Anderson would get his first start of the regular season. Although the game was close, and even needed extra innings, a base hit at the bottom of the 10th sealed the Dodgers fate with a loss. The final score was 4-3.

It’s true the Dodgers weren’t victorious, but there were certainly some bright spots in the game, including Yasmani Grandal getting a HR for his first hit as a Dodger. Check out his blast to right center field right here.

The opposition has already started to show they are terrified of Adrian Gonzalez and his hot bat, so they decided to walk him twice in only three at bats. The third absolutely resulted in another hit, just not another homer.

Speaking of hot bats, SS Jimmy Rollins has continued his hitting streak, turning in another 2 RBI’s that were very clutch indeed. Watch J-Roll hit one to the warning track right here.

Actually, every starter aside from Howie Kendrick and the pitcher, found themselves with a hit. Unfortunately, the hit total tied the strikeout total, and that’s going to have to improve over the season.

Tomorrow at 8:10 Eastern at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks will meet on the diamond for game two of this series. The D’backs rookie pitcher Archie Bradley will take the mound, opposite the reigning Cy Young recipient Clayton Kershaw. The NL MVP Kershaw went 3-1 in 4 starts against Arizona last year and he’s looking to continue his winning ways.
