We have all heard the numerous rumors concerning the San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. We’ve heard that he wasn’t ready to sign a long-term deal with the Bolts. We’ve heard he won’t play if the team was moved. There was the one that the Chargers were going to trade him to.. you can fill in the blank. The one rumor that has been consistent is the rumor that the Chargers and the Tennessee Titans have been working behind the scenes on a deal that would basically end up giving the Bolts the #2 overall pick, giving them ability to draft Marcus Mariota.
According to Ian Rapport of NFL.com a Rivers to Tennessee trade is a little more complicated than seen on the surface.
1 key reason a Philip Rivers-Titans trade is complicated: Tenn would have to work out a contract extension in the days before prior to trade

Any team that would take on Rivers would want him to commit to a long-term deal. Rivers has an expiring deal and it would be hard to convince a team to “rent” him out for a year. Rapport also reported some other details that make the situation a little more complex.
A #Titans–#Chargers deal couldn’t begin & end on the clock: Tenn would need permission to work on Rivers contract. Many moving parts — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 22, 2015
The time is ticking for the Chargers. With the draft approaching next week they will need to make a decision sooner rather than later.
