As we are now in a new year, CaliSports News writer Jeff Duarte broke down 2014:

“On New Years Day, the Los Angeles Kings started the new year with a bang by coming back and beating the Vancouver Canucks on the road.  Pumped up from the victory and still in a festive and celebratory mood, I felt the need to write about the year we had just left behind, the year 2014. A memorable and glorious year, that will never be forgotten through the sands of time for the Los Angeles Kings, by either player or fan.  2014 was nothing less than a roller coaster ride for the ages.  There were frustrations, tears, laughs, scorpion kicks and even some jazz hands!

So please grab the tasty beverage of your choice and find a comfortable seat and lets time travel back together and relive (with the help of You Tube of course) 8 major highlights (and lowlights) of the year that was 2014, a year of infamy for our Los Angeles Kings. A year that was like no other.”

The Los Angeles Kings were not able to come out on top this afternoon after an overtime win put Nashville Predators in front 7-6:

“A goal early in the first went in the Kings favor with a shot from Matt Greene, and set the game off in the right direction, well at least we thought. The Predators tied it up in the fourth minute and took the lead in the sixth, with goals from Mike Fisher and Colin Wilson respectively.

Dwight King, Marian Gaborik and Jeff Carter score three goals, 1:27 apart in the final minutes of the third period to erase a 6-3 goal deficit.Ultimately it was the great Jeff Carter sent the game to OT following an assist from Anze Kopitar.

The Kings broke their record of most goals allowed at home today and they began their seven game homestead. It was also the first time Quick was removed from a game since the Kings’ season-opening loss to the San Jose Sharks, which equals a span of 31 starts.”
