The Clippers have been working on a way to land Doc Rivers’ son Austin Rivers after he was traded from the New Orleans Pelicans to the Boston Celtics over the weekend.
Farmer has struggled in his first season with the Clippers. He hasn’t performed too poorly but Austin provides a higher upside than Farmer does.
Eric Pincus of the Los Angeles times brought up a valid point about why the Clippers and Celtics can’t just do a Rivers for Farmer swap.
Issue with moving Jordan Farmar – he has a player option – he’s not as attractive in a salary dump

With the player option Farmer would most likely opt in to his contract with the Celtics and that would not be part of their plan going forward. Therefore, if the Celtics are going to trade Rivers they would like to receive either draft picks or an expiring contract. The Celtics have been collecting draft picks and expiring contracts as a part of their rebuilding plan.
Marc Stein of ESPN.com reported that the Clippers remain extremly confident that a deal will get done this week to bring Austin to Los Angeles.
