Lakers Struggle Against Knicks, 92-80

The Los Angeles Lakers fell to the the New York Knicks on Sunday afternoon, 92-80. Carlos Boozer posted a double-double in the blowout loss.

The Los Angeles Lakers looked to start a four-game road trip with a win against the struggling New York Knicks, after a 2OT thriller win against the Chicago Bulls on Thursday night.

Nick Young and Tarik Black were both available to play on Sunday afternoon, after missing the last two games and three games, respectively.

The Lakers struggled early, only making two field goals in the first six minutes of the game. Lacking offensive production, the Lakers found themselves down by 14 after a 10-0 run by the Knicks. The first quarter ended with the Lakers trailing, 32-19. In the second quarter, the Lakers pulled to within five halfway through the quarter, but continued to struggle offensively to take the lead. The Lakers committed eight turnovers in the first half, resulting in a 47-39 deficit into the locker room. The Lakers shot an abysmal 27% in the first half. Carlos Boozer led the Lakers with nine points and five rebounds.

Out of the locker room, the Knicks went on a 7-0 run for a 15-point lead over the Lakers, 54-39. After trading baskets, the Lakers continued to struggle as Carmelo Anthony heated up, scoring 18 points in the third quarter to give the Knicks a 72-57 advantage entering the fourth quarter. The Lakers did not offer much resistance and eventually fell to the Knicks, 92-80.

The Lakers shot an atrocious 36% from the field and trailed by as much as 20. Carlos Boozer finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Jordan Clarkson continued to impress as a starter with 19 points, a new career-high. Jeremy Lin dished out seven assists and Wes Johnson scored 11 points, both off the bench. The Lakers committed 15 turnovers but out-rebounded the Knicks by five.

Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks with 31 points and eight rebounds. Langston Galloway continued his stellar play, scoring 13 points and grabbing five rebounds.

Jordan Hill suffered a right quad strain in the first quarter and was out for the rest of the game. He will be re-evaluated again tomorrow. Nick Young did not see the floor on Sunday afternoon despite being available to play after missing the last two games.

The Lakers fall to a 13-35 record on the season as they travel to Milwaukee to take on the Bucks on Wednesday night, 5PM PST.
