Lakers Fall To Suns 119-99 (Video)

The Los Angeles Lakers (0-2) traveled to Phoenix, Arizona to take on the Phoenix Suns (1-0) last night. The Suns fired on all cylinders last night as they easily beat the Lakers 119-99.

Newcomer Isiah Thomas of the Suns scored 23 points in his debut. His speed and quickness was too much for the Lakers guards to handle. Marcus Morris was able to spread the floor which made the Suns driving lanes easy. Morris hit 5 three pointers, more than the whole Lakers team combined.

The Suns were in control most of the night. At one point their lead was a big as 29 points. The Lakers did cut the lead to just 6 points at the beginning of the 3rd quarter. The Suns picked up the pace and went on a 34-11 run that put the game on ice.

Kobe Bryant put together his first 30 point game of the season. Bryant shot 11-25 from the field and scored 31 points.

Bryon Scott had this to say about the Bryant’s scoring efforts last night according to Joey Ramirez of Lakers.com.

“I think it shows that he’s pretty close to where he wants to be,” said head coach Byron Scott. “Tonight, you could see that pep in his step. And I said this before: Every preseason game you could see it getting better and better. And I think it’s getting better and better the first two regular-season games. So Kobe’s the least of my worries.

Ed Davis has started off the season strong for the Lakers. Last night he missed a double double by just one rebound. The former Tar Heel scored 14 points and added 9 rebounds in the loss.

Tempers boiled over in the game last night. Kobe Bryant received his second technical in as many nights. Eric Bledsoe was ejected in the third quarter after receiving his second technical as he was too was frustrated with the officials.

The Lakers loss is their second blowout in a row. According to ESPN.com Byron Scott had this to say about the Lakers slow start to the season.

“I told them we have to hang in there and stay together as a team,” Lakers coach Byron Scott said. “It is only two games.”

Last night’s game was less than 24 hours after the Randle injury and the Lakers may have been a little shocked. Randle underwent surgery yesterday morning and is expected to miss the rest of the season. For more information on the Randle surgery click here.
