Lakers Fall to Kings, 112-93

@NBA

The Los Angeles Lakers fell to the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night, 112-93. DeMarcus Cousins proved to be too much for the Lakers on another dominating performance at Staples Center.

Coming off a blowout loss at home against the Houston Rockets on Sunday night, the Los Angeles Lakers looked for their first win against the division rivals Sacramento Kings this season. Their last match up ended in a thriller, D’Angelo Russell scored a career-high 27 points before falling short on their rally.

GAME NOTES

Los Angeles gave up 20 points in the paint in the opening quarter of the game and shot 32% from the field, en route to a double-digit deficit, 18-28. After back-to-back baskets by Julius Randle, the Lakers pulled within four midway through the 2nd quarter.  Kobe Bryant scored 13 points to lead the team and kept the deficit at five by halftime, 52-57.

In the 3rd quarter, the Kings looked to pull away as they pushed their lead back to double-digits, 82-66. The Lakers battled back to only trail by nine, 86-77, entering the 4th quarter. The bench pulled to within four early in the fourth, but a quick 9-0 run by the Kings pushed the lead back to 13. The Kings went on to defeat the Lakers, 112-93.

Brandon Bass lead the Lakers with 18 points, seven rebounds and three blocks. A name that has come up in trade talks over the past few days, his tremendous impact on both ends of the floor continues to increase his trade value. Four other Lakers (Clarkson, Bryant, Russell, Williams) scored in double digits in the loss.

As a team, Los Angeles gave up 58 points in the paint, a constant trend this season wherein they are last in the league in points given up in the paint (46.9).  The Lakers shot an atrocious 33% from the field while getting out-rebounded by 18. The losing streak is up to four games.

DeMarcus Cousins continues to dominate the Lakers this season, posting 34 points and 16 rebounds. Rajon Rondo, the league-leader in assists per game, dished out 17 assists. Rudy Gay scored 16. The Kings have won six straight games versus the Lakers.

Los Angeles falls to 9-35 this season as they continue to play out Kobe Bryant’s last year in the NBA.

INJURY REPORT

Larry Nance Jr. missed his second straight game due to a sore right knee and is expected to miss the next two games. Julius Randle has been in the starting lineup in his absence.
