Kobe Bryant set a career high in assists but the Los Angeles Lakers were unable to keep up with the Cleveland Cavaliers and fell 109-102. The Lakers were coming off a loss to the Miami Heat on Tuesday night. It was a struggle offensively as they lost a close one 78-75.
Kobe Bryant was the center of attention tonight as he put on a show running the Laker offense. Bryant scored 19 points and had 17 assists in the loss. Jordan Hill was extremely effective for the Lakers running the pick and pop with Bryant. He scored 20 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Nick Young struggled for the Lakers tonight but he scored 14 points off the bench.
Kobe Bryant and LeBron James have been linked together since James entered the league. As Kobe inches closer to retirement the amount of head to head matches between the two get closer to the end. Down the stretch in the fourth quarter fans at Staples Center got their money’s worth as the two stars would guard each other.
James is one of the best players in the world and he looked like it tonight. He scored 36 points including 4 three pointers. Kevin Love scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds even with his back giving him problems. Kyrie Irving chipped in 22 points, and Tristan Thompson grabbed 11 rebounds off the bench.
The Lakers played pretty solid throughout but just ran out of gas against a more talented Cavaliers team. They were also unable to get rebounds in key moments down the stretch. Tonight’s loss pushed the Lakers streak to three in a row.
The Lakers will travel to Utah to take on the Jazz on Friday night for their next game.
