The Los Angeles Kings battled all night but eventually fell in overtime to the Pittsburgh Penguins 1-0 in overtime. While the Kings were coming off a victory against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night they were unable to get it done in the OT tonight.
Marc-Andre Fleury recorded a 31 save shutout tonight. This was his second shutout of the season against the Kings as he held them scoreless back in October.
Jonathan Quick made 17 saves tonight but the one he let by served to be the game winner. A constantly turnover by the Kings set the Penguins up for the victory.
Once again the Kings had more shots on goal their opponent but they were able to convert on those shots. Marian Gaborik led the team with 6 shots on the goal, and Drew Doughty had 5 of his own.
Chris Kunitz led the Penguins with shots on goal with 4 while Sidney Crosby only had 2. It was Patric Hornqvist however that put the game winner through the net in overtime.
Tonight’s loss snapped a two game winning streak for the defending champions. They will take on the Colorado Avalanche on the road on Tuesday night.
