Kershaw Struggles, Dodgers Shutout vs AZ

The Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw struggled at the mound today in Arizona. The entire lineup of batters in blue struggled at the plate tonight as well. Expectedly, these two things combined are not a recipe for victory in today’s MLB. So naturally the Dodgers came out on the losing side of their matchup with the Arizona Diamondbacks this evening.

Reigning NL MVP and 3x Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw finished his pervious season on a low note, and hasn’t seemed to find his groove yet in his two starts this year. Today he did manage 6.1 innings and 5 strikeouts, while allowing only 3 walks. However, the Diamondbacks hit total reached 10, and those hits resulted in 6 runs, The final straw for Dodgers manager Don Mattingly had to be in the top of the 7th inning when Clayton Kershaw gave up a 3-run-HR to Paul Goldschmidt.

Usually, when a superstar pitcher has an off day, he can turn toward his teammates to score a few runs and provide a bit of cushion. Admittedly their performance was out of character, but the entire Dodgers lineup provided just two hits the entire game. Those stats came against rookie pitcher Archie Bradley, who was making his first major league start nonetheless.

Fortunately for the Dodgers they have one more chance at redemption before they begin their series vs the Seattle Marriners. Tomorrow afternoon at 1pm Zack Greinke and the Los Angeles Dodgers take on the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field.
