Giants 2 Padres 0

The first time the Padres faced World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner they tagged him for 10 hits and 5 earned runs as he lasted just three innings. Today they took him on again, sending Tyson Ross out to oppose him.

Ross has struggled all season with his mechanics which has resulted in trouble controlling his pitches. His control issues came back to bite him, this time in the third inning following a Nori Aoki single, Ross walked Joe Panik then gave up an RBI single to Angel Pagan then issued a walk to Buster Posey and Justin Maxwell to much the lead to 2-0.

Those two runs would be more than enough tonight as Bumgarner carried the momentum over from his last start against the Dodgers and had the Padres on no-hit watch through  6-innings.

The no-hit bid was ended in the 7th inning when Justin Upton and Yangervis Solarte started the inning with back-to-back singles. Bumgarner buckled down and was able to escape the jam and get out of the inning unscathed.

Tyson Ross pitched 7.0 innings giving up 7 hits, 2 earned runs and walking 3.

That would be all the Padres offense had to show on this night as they only mustered two hits compared to the 8 hits the Giants had.

Top catching prospect Austin Hedges made his Major League debut when he pinch hit in 8th inning striking out.

San Francisco was awful in the field committing 4 errors but the Padres were unable to capitalize.

Madison Bumgarner pitched 7.1 innings allowing only 2 hits while striking out 6.

Brandon Belt and Angel Pagan each had two hits to pace the San Francisco offense.

Santiago Casilla closed out the game earning his eighth save of the season.

The Padres and Giants are back in action tomorrow in San Francisco at 7:15 with Andrew Cashner (1-4 2.61) going up against Ryan Vogelsong (0-2 9.31).
