Ducks vs. Hawks: The Kings Fan’s Dilemma

(Photo via Twitter User )

It’s Kings fan’s “Sophie’s choice.”

When the Los Angeles Kings became ineligible for the playoffs, a Chicago Blackhawks/Anaheim Ducks Western Conference Final was inevitable. (Truthfully my first thought – after I managed to wrap my head around such a devastating development – was that we had essentially given the Stanley Cup to the Hawks. I cursed the hockey Gods! And wept bitter tears. Truthfully I still am!) So given that it’s unlikely any team from the East can match any team in the West in a best of seven competition, who can Kings fans put up with taking their beloved Cup away from them for the next year?

It would seem obvious – given the Ducks proximity to the Kings, and the fact that they are a divisional rival, so we’d play them twice more than the Hawks next season – that the Hawks would be the best of a bad situation. When Ducks fans attempt to laud over us the fact that they won the Cup first, we can happily reply – “sure, but how many do you have?”

One of the Kings greatest claims right now is that with 2 Cups in 3 years (as a friend of mine says the Kings are ‘back to back full season Stanley Cup Champions’) we’re in the midst of being a hockey dynasty. Do we really want the Hawks to have the same legacy? They already have two Stanley Cups since 2010. And next year, assuming the Kings step up their game in the regular season, does anyone believe we can’t handle the Ducks in next season’s playoffs? (For the record with the apparent loss of Jarret Stoll arrested in Vegas (Stoll due to drug charges, the likely buyout of Mike Richards, and the desire to overcome the embarrassment of this season, the Kings are making the playoffs next season. Mark my words.)

Handling the Hawks could be more challenging and do we really want them to have the opportunity for 3 Cups in 6 years? Back-to-back Stanley Cups when we couldn’t accomplish that? No, no my friends, we can’t give the Hawks fans that satisfaction. Vote Ducks! Or something.

I completely agree actually. They’re the only team left that won’t break my heart if they win.

That depends. I find that London has better nooks, but you really can’t beat New York for crannies. And, of course, New York also has plenty of crooks and nannies..
