Ducks Open Season With Win Over Sharks 5-2

The Anaheim Ducks scored three goals in the final period to beat the San Jose Sharks 5-2 on opening night.  With the win, the Ducks are hoping to build off of this win and have a strong opening to the 2018-2019 season.

The offense got started just 49 seconds in when Maxime Comtois scored a wrist shot goal. His goal was assisted by Adam Henrique and Jakob Silfverberg. This gave Anaheim a 1-0 lead. Later on, in the period Evander Kane scored a wrist shot goal that was assisted by Justin Braun and tied the game.

In the second period, Tomas Hertl scored a wrist shot goal that gave the Sharks a 2-1 lead. Rickard Rakell answered just 45 seconds later when Jakob Silfverberg and Ryan Getzlaf and tied the score at 2-2.

It was Brandon Montour who scored the go-ahead goal in the third period that was assisted by Rakell and Getzlaf. Henrique followed with a slap shot goal that was assisted by Silfverberg and Rakell.

Later in the period, Carter Rowney scored an empty net goal that was assisted by Ben Street and Kiefer Sherwood and the Ducks went on to win 5-2.

John Gibson made 31 saves while Martin Jones made just 10 saves. Anaheim will take on the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday night at the Gila River Arena.
