Dodgers Hire Andrew Friedman

According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.com, the Los Angeles Dodgers have hired Andrew Friedman as their president of baseball operations.

Andrew Friedman was the general manager of the Tampa Bay Rays before electing to join the Dodgers today. In Friedman’s new role as president of baseball operations ESPN states that he will have the freedom to hire a new general manager.

Ned Colletti has been the general manager of the Dodgers since 2005, and will take a more advisory role in the organization.

Andrew Friedman is the premier name in the front office market. He took over as the Rays general manager at age 28, and lead the small market team to six consecutive winning seasons.

Dodgers CEO Stan Kasten had this to say about Friedman:

“Andrew Friedman is one of the youngest and brightest minds in the game today and we are very fortunate to have him join our organization,” Kasten said in a statement. “The success he has had over the past nine years in molding the Tampa Bay Rays team has been incredible.”

The power move of landing Andrew Friedman to the organization sends shock waves around front offices around the league. To put into perspective the respect and stature Friedman has around the league Ramona Shelburne describes the situation in reference to the movie “Moneyball”.

What would a LA sports story be without referencing a movie? The Dodgers are not satisfied with early exits in the playoffs. With the hiring of Friedman the Dodgers hope they can get over the hump and bring a World Series back to LA.
