Chris Paul Lifts Clippers Over Spurs 119-115
- Updated: February 19, 2015
The Los Angeles Clippers returned from the All-Star with a chance to prove their rank against the defending champion San Antonio Spurs. While the Clippers came into tonight’s game with a 21-7 record at home they would have to do it without their big man Blake Griffin.
Tonight’s game was back and forth with players on both sides having huge games. Tim Duncan looked like he found the fountain of youth as he was hitting three pointers and dunking. Yes I said Time Duncan was dunking tonight.
DeAndre Jordan came into tonight’s game coming off of back to back 20 point 20 rebound performances. He came extremely close tonight to matching that as he scored 26 points and 18 rebounds. The Spurs did go to the Hack a Jordan as it worked in their favor.
Jordan ,who has been struggling from the line this season, went just 10/28 tonight. Many people believed that Chris Paul would need to step up with Griffin going down and he certainly did. CP3 had 23 points and 16 assists in the win.
The Clippers bench was extremely effective tonight. In the third quarter a unit that was led by Glen Davis and Jamal Crawford sparked a Clippers run. Crawford off the bench had 26 points and 5 assists while hitting 5 three pointers.
For the Spurs they find themselves in an unusual position. They are currently in 7th in the Western Conference and needed this game to move up the standings. Duncan lead the Spurs tonight with his strong play. He had a vintage performance with 30 points and 11 rebounds on 12/14 shooting.
Tony Parker had 21 points and 13 assists but the real issue was the play of NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard. He went just 1-11 tonight including 0/6 from behind the arch.
Tiago Splitter, Marco Belina, and Manu Ginobili each scored double digits off the bench for the Spurs but it was not enough to get the victory.
Both teams shot the ball extremely well from the field but it was the Clippers who came out the victors. Tonight’s win was big for the Clipshow as they look to survive without Griffin for a few more weeks.
Up next, the Clippers will take on the Sacramento Kings on Saturday night.
