Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans controlled the game and beat the Lakers 104-87 Sunday night. The loss for the Lakers make it three in a row as the season continues to be a struggle.

While the Pelicans were coming off of a loss to the Clippers, they looked to take out their frustration on the inferior Laker squad. Anthony Davis scored 23 points as he was too much to handle for the Laker bigs. Pelicans head coach Monty Williams told ESPN.com this about the young superstar.

“He’s just special. Nothing fazes him,” Williams said. “He had a subpar game for him last night — and I say that jokingly when you look at his numbers. But he didn’t play as well as he can play. So for him to come back and close out this game the way that he did — I mean, he’s just 21 years old. And when he’s 23 to 27, we’re going to see something the league has never seen.”

Jrue Holiday scored 22 points for the Pelicans, while Ryan Anderson added 11 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. For the Lakers it was a struggle all around. They shot 40% from the field, and 26% from the three.

Kobe Bryant lead the team in scoring with just 14 points. Ed Davis had a strong game for the Lakers as he scored 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to push the Lakers to victory.

In interesting to see tonight was the Lakers new starting lineup. Head coach Byron Scott made the change a point guard giving Ronnie Price the start, and inserted Ed Davis at the starting power forward position. He told ESPN.com this about the changes.

“If you look at our record, we have to make changes — at least think I do,” Scott said. “As a coach, I’m not going to stand pat and just watch it continue to be played this way. So to me, it was a no-brainer. The reason is obviously on the defensive end. The last five games I’ve been thinking about this.”

Tonight’s loss drops the Lakers to 5-16 on the year. They will take on the Sacremento Kings on Tuesday night at the Staples Center.
