Angels Bullpen Collapses Fall To A’s 9-2

The Oakland A’s totaled 18 hits tonight and used a late push to beat the Los Angeles Angels 9-2. After yesterday’s 14-1 victory for the Angels today’s game was vastly different.
Jered Weaver got the start for the Angels. He pitched well going 6 innings allowing 8 hits and 1 run while striking out 3. He was awarded a no decision.
For the A’s Sonny Gray had a strong game. He pitched 7 innings allowing 2 innings and 1 run while striking out 7. He earned his 2nd win of the year.
The offense started early for the A’s. Billy Butler grounded into a fielder choice that allowed Stephen Vogt to score. This gave the A’s a 1-0 lead heading into the 2nd inning.
In the 2nd inning Erick Aybar grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored David Freese that tied the game at 1-1.
Fernando Salas came on in the 7th and had an outing he’d like to forget. Vogt hit a RBI single that scored Eric Sogard.
Sam Fuld scored off a wild pitch to give the A’s the 3-1 lead. Butler followed with a 2 run shot that brought the lead to 5-1. Brett Lawrie hit a RBI single that brought in Ike Davis and the A’s left the 7th with a 6-1 lead.
In the 8th inning Vogt hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Marcus Semien. Butler followed with a RBI single that score Fuld. Davis added a RBI on a fielder’s choice that allowed Mark Canha to score. This gave the A’s the 9-1 lead.
In the 9th inning Matt Joyce grounded into a fielder’s choice that allowed Albert Pujols to score and the Angels fell 9-2.
The A’s and Angels will wrap their series tomorrow tonight at 4:05 p.m. PST.
